Tinker Bell and her fairy friends

Tinker Bell and her fairy friends

Meet Tinker Bell and her new fairy friends — Fawn, an animal fairy; Iridessa, a light fairy; Rosetta, a garden fairy; and Silvermist, a water fairy — who will be greeting guests in their new Pixie Hollow home from October 24, 2008.

Pixie Hollow will be located in Toon Town - and in order to visit Tink and her fairy friends guests will have to walk along a corridor which will shrink them down to fairy size. The fairies will be available throughout the day to sign autographs and pose for pictures with young and old alike — I think this may be one meet and greet that will appeal to Dad as much as his little princess!

Here are some fun Tinker Bell facts courtesy of Walt Disney World:

  • Tinker Bell debuted at Walt Disney World Resort in 1971, as the classic attraction Peter Pan’s Flight opened in Fantasyland. The beloved attraction immerses guests in the “Peter Pan” story as passengers board flying pirate ships bound for Never Land.
  • Tinker Bell began “flying” from high atop Cinderella Castle in 1985. Since then, she has taken her flight thousands of times to light the sky with magical fireworks.
  • Tinker Bell made her Walt Disney World parade debut in 2007. She made that premiere appearance atop a float in “Disney’s Enchanted Adventures Parade,” an entertainment extravaganza during Disney’s Pirate and Princess Party.
  • Tinker Bell merchandise continually ranks among the top sellers of character-based merchandise at Walt Disney World Resort.

Honey, I Shrunk the KidsImage via Wikipedia

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? What on earth is a 47 year old woman doing on the slide in the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground? I always thought that playground was just for kids…

This is just one of the injuries in a report released by the Florida Bureau of Fair Rides Inspection. The major theme parks in Florida are exempt from state inspection regulation but report serious ride incidents to the Bureau who release the reports quarterly. A serious incident is usually one that requires an overnight stay.

According to the Orlando Sentinel some of the incidents reported include:

*At SeaWorld Orlando, a woman, 34, broke her right ankle stepping off the Jazzy Jellies ride on May 1.

*At SeaWorld’s new water park, Aquatica, a woman, 63, inhaled water on Roa’s Rapids on May 21.

*At Universal Studios a man, 45, had chest pain and nausea on Revenge of the Mummy on May 24.

*At Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, a man, 65, had chest pain on Splash Mountain on April 27; a girl, 6, had a seizure on Snow White’s Scary Adventures on May 8; and a woman, 57, injured her right knee on The Haunted Mansion on June 19.

*At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, a man, 32, had neck and head pain on Tower of Terror on April 5; a man, 54, felt ill and had a possible heart attack on The Great Movie Ride on May 19; a woman, 47, broke an ankle on a Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground slide on May 26; and a woman, 25, had a seizure on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster on June 5.

*At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, there were three reports from Expedition Everest: a man, 72, had stomach pain on March 29; a man, 57, felt hot and dizzy on May 17; and a man, 78, had trouble breathing and blurred vision on June 16.

In all 14 incidents were reported for the months from April through to June - which given the number of parks and the number of guests seems surprisingly low to me.

Animal Kingdom's original logo which includes ...Image via Wikipedia

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen the Pocahontas and her Forest Friends show as it was always billed as a pre-school show - and now it appears I’ve missed my chance.

Walt Disney World officials have announced that after a ten year run at Disney’s Animal Kingdom the show will close on September 27, 2008.

There are no plans for an immediate replacement - though I’m sure speculation will be rife in the Disney community as to what could take its place.

Fans of Pocahontas will be able to see her elsewhere in the park and according to spokeswoman Zoraya Suarez the rest of the 28-member cast and crew will be reassigned.
