This latest Disney-Pixar animated movie is brought to us courtesy of the Producer of Monsters Inc. The trailer starts out with some footage from our favourite movies including Cars, Finding Nemo and Toy Story before introducing Mr Frederickson, the unlikely looking hero in this newest release. If the trailer is anything to go by this is going to be a great film - and if you’re lucky you might even be able to watch it in Disney 3D.

Every year the Disney gardeners celebrate the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival by creating an amazing and intricate topiary display that stands against the backdrop of Spaceship Earth. In 2009 Cinderella and Prince Charming, Snow White and the seven dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip, and Belle and Beast from “Beauty and the Beast” will debut in all their “blooming finery” as the grand front-entrance topiary during the 75-day festival.

This ‘Cinderellabration’ topiary and an environmentally friendly Green Garden will bring a fresh springtime flair to the 16th installment of this popular annual festival. The festival will run from March 18 through May 31, 2009 and amid the colourful flowers, topiaries and plats guests will also be able to explore a wide range of activities and exhibits. The weekend Flower Power concerts will spread a groovy vibe at the America Gardens Theatre in World Showcase.

We visited the festival in 2007 and it is pretty impressive. If you’re heading out there in 2009 here’s what you can expect to see:

Green Garden– Anyone can create an environmentally friendly garden; here’s where guests will learn about low-water-use gardens, incorporating native plants into their garden and recycling.

Pixie Hollow – Colorful topiaries of Tinker Bell and her friends from Walt Disney Pictures’ “Tinker Bell” will sprinkle pixie dust over this playful garden designed just for kids.

Pirates Adventure Zone – Peter Pan, Captain Hook and Croc topiaries will lure young swashbucklers to this interactive space designed for exploration and adventure.

Special Environmentality Celebration (April 24-26) – This special event will showcase how to keep the planet green through solutions like reducing waste and using friendly bugs.

Throughout the festival, more than 70 topiaries will decorate the park landscape and showcase the extraordinary craftsmanship of Disney gardeners. The sweeping floral beds and exhibits will feature no less than 30 million blooms. A Fragrance Garden at the France pavilion will tell the “love story” of plants and perfume, and the English Tea Garden at the United Kingdom pavilion will explore the art and history of blending tea plants. The impressive art of bonsai display will return to amaze guests at the Japan showcase.
Other festival highlights will include:

Flower Power concerts — Popular bands will rock the open-air America Gardens Theatre every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 5:15, 6:30 and 7:45 p.m.  The concert lineup is slated to include new acts like Harold Melvin’s Blue Notes, plus pop favorites like Davy Jones, Chubby Checker & The Wildcats, Tony Orlando, Jose Feliciano, Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone and other top acts.

Minnie’s Magnificent Butterfly Garden — Hundreds of butterflies will flit inside a walk-through screened enclosure that includes a live exhibit showing how caterpillars form a chrysalis and emerge as butterflies.

Disney Gardening at Home presentations — Disney horticulturists will share gardening tips and lead guests in a hands-on, take-home activity.

The Great American Gardeners series — Gardening celebrities and authors from across the country will reveal their gardening secrets.

The Garden Town Festival Center — Guests can shop for festival merchandise, attend speaker presentations and demonstrations and ask gardening questions of the experts.

Simba’s Birthday Celebration — A lineup of topiary characters straight from Walt Disney Pictures’ “The Lion King” will greet guests at World Showcase Plaza.

Poster Signings — Artist Heather French will sign festival posters each Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. at Canada Garden Retreat.

More Festival Celebrations — An Art in the Garden celebration of plein air artists and a Kids Paint Out will occur March 27-29; a Florida Farmer’s Market celebration will take place May 8-10.  More celebrations will bloom throughout the festival.

I don’t know about you but I love reading about the stories behind the attractions and the reasons for the little details that are woven throughout all of the Disney parks. I’ve bought each of the Imagineering Field Guides and they have changed the way I experience the parks.

It’s not just about rushing around from one attraction to the other and working out how to avoid standing in line for too long. If you slow down and really look around you then you can experience the parks in a whole new light, the way Walt wanted us to.

It was with great sadness that we experienced the closure of Pleasure Island back in September. But if you have an annual pass for the Island you need to act quickly if you want to exchange it for a partial refund.

Stop by Guest Services and they will give you a pro-rated refund depending on how long you have held the pass for. Apparently there has been some confusion about the refund process so stand your ground and ensure you get the correct amount refunded.

Unfortunately you have to surrender the pass so if you want to keep yours as a souvenir then you’ll just have to forfeit the refund.

Rumours are never scarce in the Disney community, but sometimes you read about things that seem likely to happen.

Here are the latest whispers courtesy of Disney Gossip…

Thanks to higher than expected room occupancy the Magic Kingdom is pushing ahead with its upgrade programme. Workers have been fixing building facades and support pillars throughout the park all year, but that’s just the beginning.

On the cards is a quick refurb of Space Mountain and a new Little Mermaid attraction for Fantasyland. Also rumoured is the potential relocation of some of Fantasyland’s attractions as well as a general makeover to the facades throughtout the Land.

The new What Will You Celebrate? campaign kicks off in 2009 and each park will get a new street party; potentially the Magic Kingdom will have a cavalcade from Town Square to the Hub and back.

Once again the 3 o’clock parade will get a mini-makeover with a new float or two and some new music.

To celebrate the release of the new Tinker Bell DVD, Disney has joined forces with Southwest Airlines. The Tinker Bell One, a specially decorated Boeing 737, will fly passengers to Tampa International Airport and other airports.

Flight attendants will wear Tinker Bell wings and prizes will be awarded to passengers who can answer trivia questions about the classic Disney movie Peter Pan.

Tinker Bell fans in the US and Canada bought 668,000 copies of the new computer-animated film on release day, which according to the New York Times was an increase of 22% on projected sales.

The DVD release is an effort by Disney to push the ‘fairies’ franchise just as they have with the ‘Disney Princesses’ line which was built around Cinderella and Snow White videos and merchandise.

The new Meet Tinker Bell and her Fairy Friends meet and greet at the Magic Kingdom is just one of the activities Disney will be pursuing in order to raise the profile of this popular pixie.

SeaWorld Orlando is well known for its animal shows but guests to the park are also treated to a Cirque du Soleil type show in the Nautilus Theatre.

SeaWorld have recently introduced their newest theatrical performance: A’Lure, The Call of the Ocean. The 30-minute production is an aquatic tapestry of acrobats, athleticism and electronic visuals. Guests are taken on a journey through the depths of the mysterious ocean as they experience a tale of the Sea Sirens whose hypnotic calls have been luring entranced fisherman for centuries.

The underwater world featuring animated fish, manta rays and sea serpents is projected onto a giant screen while the action takes place on the stage in front. The story is brought to life by a dozen Chinese acrobats, aerial tumblers, lyrical dancers and diablo yo-yo performers.

We saw a show in the Nautilus Theatre last year and I was entranced by the Chinese acrobats, the show was pretty impressive, and better still is included in the cost of admission. If you’re visiting SeaWorld Orlando and want to get in out of the hot sun then be sure to check out A’Lure, The Call of the Ocean.
