Celebrate with your Disney friends
New research has revealed that lots of people are taking ‘celebration vacations’ as a way to mark milestone events, such as birthdays or anniversaries.
The key findings included:
- Seven out of ten people surveyed have taken a vacation to celebrate a special occasion,
- Most of the people taking celebration vacations are looking for activities that kids and adults can experience together
- Disney parks topped the destination list
With the extended Year of a Million Dreams coming to an end this year Disney have just announced that starting January 1, 2009 both Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Florida will be inviting guests to celebrate their special moments with their family and friends in the parks.
Visit for free on your birthday
“Every guest gets in free to one of our parks on their birthday in 2009,” said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
What better present could you ask for than a free ticket to a Disney park? If you are planning to visit one of the parks on your actual birthday then you will be granted free admission for your special day! Multi-day or Annual Pass holders will be able to choose one of these birthday treats instead:
- A special birthday FASTPASS® ticket for certain attractions at the park you visit on your birthday; or
- A Birthday Fun Card equal to the price of a 1-Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket* for you to use on your birthday for merchandise, recreation or fun activities at select participating locations at the Walt Disney World Resort; or
- A 1-Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket for you to use any time until your next birthday.
*The current price of a 1-Day Magic Your Way Base Ticket is $75 so if you’re a Passholder you’ll receive a $75 Disney gift card on your birthday!
You’ll need to register your birthday over at www.disneyparks.com.
I love to spend my birthday at the Magic Kingdom - but unfortunately won’t be doing so again until 2010
Magical experiences
If you’re not fortunate enough to visit on your actual birthday you can still celebrate your special occasion. Walt Disney World offers more than 200 experiences, from fireworks cruises to sunrise safaris and character dining to pirate adventures that can be purchased in advance of your trip. Disneyland guests can experience more than 50 magical events including a My Disneyland Birthday Party and guided tours.
It’s a party in the park
Guests at the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park will be invited to join Disney characters and performers in a celebratory song and dance party.
This new promotion aims to encourage people to celebrate their birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, reunions in a Disney theme park. Decorations in the park will invite you to ‘Celebrate Today!’ with Cast Members and guests.
If you needed a reason to visit a Disney park in 2009 you now have a perfect one - be sure to register at www.disneyparks.com for your free birthday ticket - and when you reach the parks pick up a celebration button to let everyone know that you are celebrating a special occasion.

Probably not a bad marketing idea. You’d love to get a kid into the idea that his or her birthday is something he or she does at Walt Disney World. Just that much more likely to get repeat business.
