Young Brits to be taught about Florida
By Mrs S • Jul 16th, 2008 • Category: NewsLiving in the UK I am constantly seeing Florida’s tourist attractions advertised in magazines and newspapers - and now Orlando has found another way to tap into the British market - through our children.
Visit Florida - the official tourism marketing organisation for the state has formed a partnership with First News, a children’s weekly publication used in British classrooms.
Over the course of the 08/09 school year First News will feature special sections focusing on Florida’s eco-system and environment, animals and wildlife, science and space programs, history, entertainment and sports. Visit Florida will also sponsor two teachers’ editions of First News.
The partnership will offer family holiday giveaways - with winners being asked to write a travel article about this Florida holiday for publication in future editions.
“This collaborative effort was designed to further strengthen our ties to the UK market and encourage children in the UK to learn more about the world – Florida in particular,” said Richard Goldman, chairman of Visit Florida. Goldman added that the through the partnership, Visit Florida is “creating a new generation of Florida travellers.”
This is a great way of raising Orlando’s profile while letting British children know that there is more to Orlando than Mickey Mouse!
