How’s that for a life-sized Mr Potato Head? Imagineers over at Disney’s California Adventure are pulling out all the stops to take this giant animatronic to a new level - coming in at a mere $1m this *little* guy will sing songs and interact with guests waiting in line for the upcoming attraction Toy Story Mania.
The ride itself is reported to carry a price tag of almost $80m and will immerse guests in a 3D video game, where ride vehicles career through a series of old-fashioned carnival games.

“Mr. Rafferty and Mr. Coltrin dreamed up a fanciful story: The classic toys in “Toy Story” had come to life and staged a carnival under their owner’s bed while he was away at dinner. Little Bo Peep would operate the balloon darts; Ham, the talking piggy bank, would cheer riders as they tossed virtual eggs at barn animals. The culmination would be “Woody’s Rootin’ Tootin’ Gallery,” a twist on old-fashioned shooting galleries.
They would use full-scale 3-D animation, a first for a Disney ride. That, Mr. Vaughn said, would make riders feel as if they were inside a video game or a virtual world. “We look at it as gaming meets immersive storytelling,” he said.” (Excerpt from article at New York Times online)
Looks like this is going to be some attraction when it finally opens at both California Adventure on the West Coast and Disney’s Hollywood Studios on the East - you can bet your bottom dollar that lines will be long - but I’m sure that Mr Potato Head, with his singing and dancing and ability to remove his ear, will keep us all entertained while we wait :0)
