Book Review | Jemima J. by Jane Green

By Mrs S • Aug 27th, 2008 • Category: 5 stars, 50 book challenge, Chick Lit Challenge, Summer Reading, Summer Reading Thing

Written by any other author this book may have been trite, and corny - but Green has a knack of letting the reader know that while everything may seem rosy there is something more ’sinister’ afoot - and when the twist came near the end, I certainly hadn’t seen it coming!

Book Review | Anne of Windy Willows by L.M. Montgomery

By Mrs S • Aug 16th, 2008 • Category: 3 stars, 50 book challenge, Series Challenge 2, Summer Reading, Summer Reading Thing, Young Adult

I think that as a stand-alone ‘chronicles’ this book should be appreciated - but for a reader who yearns for tales of Anne and her loved ones it left me wanting.

Book Review | Animal Farm by George Orwell

By Mrs S • Jul 26th, 2008 • Category: 4 stars, 50 book challenge, Book Blowout, Classics Challenge, Reviews, Summer Reading, Summer Reading Thing, Well-rounded challenge

Animal Farm is an excellent allegory; using farmyard animals who overthrow their humans in search of utopia to show that such a state of equality is impossible to achieve - because of the corruptive influence of the very power required to necessitate it.
