I’m quite sad to be making this announcement, but I’ve decided to close the doors on the Virtual Book Club that I set up this summer. Unfortunately, I just don’t have the time to spend growing the membership of the site, and though the few members we do have have contributed some great posts I feel bad that no one is reading them!
I think I’m going to concentrate on encouraging you all to participate in the comments for each book review rather than trying to send people to a forum.
I did want to give a shout out to Book Blogs though - the popularity of that social networking site has shot up recently and I encourage you all to join up if you haven’t already. I think it’s going to be a great place to hang out with other bookish types. I’m known as Mrs S over there so be sure to add me as a friend.

I’m sorry to see the virtual book club close, but I understand about the time commitment. I enjoyed it while it lasted!

Sorry the book club didn’t work out for you. I’ve just recently joined Book Blogs and hope to become more active. I see you’re on twitter. I’m going to follow you now.

It’s hard to keep track of so many things. Believe me, with five blogs, I more than understand and sorry I didn’t participate as much as I would have liked…especially on the Great Expectations discussion. Unfortunately, I don’t think many others did either. Book discussion groups are hard. I tried starting my own over at Ning by myself and had to delete it. Glad I found Book Blogs, but would still like to see it be more interactive. It’s just hard when we all have so much going on in our lives.

I’m sorry that you’re sad about the decision you’ve had to make regarding this, but I’m just relieved it’s not the Blue Archipelago site as a whole like I first thought when I saw your e-mail update. Whew! I know it must be disappointing to shut the doors on such a new endeavor, yet life has a funny way of working things out. So, don’t be too upset. If this branch out is something your heart is really pulled too, then maybe the future will find you with the time, place, and opportunity to jump back in to the virtual book club arena. In the meantime, I think your idea of simply trying to draw people in to discussion on your review threads here is a wonderful idea.
Good luck, my friend.

Clare - It really saddens me to see this close. When I stumbled across it during the summer, I saw in your virtual book club something that had great potential. Maybe if ‘members’ like me spent a bit more time contributing to it, and helping to promote it, then it would not have forced you to make this difficult move.
As RebekahC says though, thank heavens it’s only the book club and not Blue Archipelago as a whole - I’d hate to lose that from my feed list.
Hopefully you’ll find the time and energy to revisit your virtual book club in the future, but until then keep up the great work.

Thanks for the kind words guys - don’t worry Blue Archipelago is here to stay! I’ve saved all the files form the Book Club so one day if I have some spare time to devote to doing it properly i might resurrect it.
Until then be sure to post lots of comments!
Sorry that you had to close it too, but understand about not having the time. That’s the story of my life.
