Book Review | Cathy’s Book by Stewart Weisman Brigg

4 stars - an intriguing interactive detective story
Cathy’s Book is about…
A seventeen year old girl, who breaks up with her boyfriend (Victor) and then goes digging around in his mysterious life.
Cathy’s Book isn’t your usual ‘words on a page’ kind of book; it’s presented as a journal documenting Cathy’s detective adventures - complete with doodles and illustrations. In among the story are telephone numbers you can call to pick up messages about the characters, websites to visit and IM conversations. This really is a Young Adult book designed for today’s Young Adults.
Emma - I know it sounds crazy.
You (and Mum!) will be wondering where I’ve been disappearing to, and when I’ll be back. That’s why I’m leaving you all this evidence - in case something happens and I DON’T come back.
Look at everything in my book.
Call the phone numbers.
Check out the websites.
But, you can’t tell ANYBODY about it, unless you want to end up in over your head, like me.
But don’t worry, I’ll be OK (I think). Hey, maybe this is the beginning of a new life for me.
For sure it’s the end of the old one.
Call me.
Love, Cathy
The story is fast-paced and fun to read; even if I did work out Victor’s secret quite early on. When reading the book I did feel like I was reading Cathy’s journal, and found that once I’d started I couldn’t put it down!

Cathy's Website
I’d recommend this book to…
Young Adults, and grown ups who are looking for something light-hearted and a little different to mix up their reading routine.
Would I read another book by Stewart Weisman Brigg?
Apparently there is a sequel due called Cathy’s Key and I might have to keep an eye out for it when it hits the stores in paperback.
