Fans of Neil Gaiman’s graphic novels may be interested to hear that Coraline is being brought to the big screen through stop-motion animation.
The 2002 novella - which won Gaiman no less than three awards - tells the fantasy story of Coraline, a bored little girl who opens the door to an alternative world and finds herself trapped in the weird and wonderful.
Henry Selick - perhaps most famous for The Nightmare Before Christmas - is directing the movie and in the interview Gaiman talks about how well Selick and the animating team have brought his ideas to life.
The stop-motion animation suits this tale perfectly and I’m looking forward to watching it when it is released in March 2009.

Yay I’m getting this book from the library tomorrow. I’m glad they’re doing it stop motion, I think it would fit the style better.

I’m trying to mooch a copy but haven’t had much luck yet. I really should think about joining my local library!
Huh… I usually like Gaiman’s stuff, but this doesn’t seem to grab me much.
