4 stars - a delightful but educational story about endangered animals
Description
A charming introduction to the world of exotic cats and endangered species.
Why did you choose to read this book?
I was lucky enough to be offered an Advanced Review Copy of this book and thought it was as good a time as any to add some children’s book reviews to Blue Archipelago
The Book Review
The Tiniest Tiger by Joanne McGonagle, is the charming tale of a little kitten who chases a butterfly all the way from her home in the Alley to the Zoo. As she realises that she is lost, she wonders if she might find a new home with one of the cats who live at the zoo.
As the kitten is directed from big cat to big cat, readers learn important information about each of these animals by way of illustrated signs; details include size, life span, litter size and status. I was quite shocked to discover that all of the big cats mentioned including tigers, lions, cheetahs and bobcats are all endangered - I can’t quite believe I didn’t know that.
Amazon suggests this book is suitable for children aged four to eight and I think it would be a wonderful story to share with your children and prompt a discussion about these beautiful animals as well as what to do should they ever find themselves lost.
I’ll be passing my copy on to my friend’s two year old son when I next see him as I’m sure he’ll enjoy it.

I enjoyed this book too (as did my kids.) I linked to your review on my blog.
I love books that allow you to teach your kids at the same time. This looks like it would do just that - helping them understand the beauty of these animals and their place in the world. Thanks, I’ll pick up a copy.

@jnnu - I was shocked about the number of endangered species too - it may be a children’s book but it taught me a thing or two!
