The Book Review

When Laurel Hawthorne is woken in the middle of the night to find a ghost in her bedroom and a girl drowned in her swimming pool her world is turned upside down. As she looks to her elder sister to help her find the killer and protect her daughter, Laurel comes to discover that the people and events of her past are not what she thought them to be. As the pieces come together Laurel has to race to rescue the one thing she holds most precious…

Jackson weaves a tale around vivid characters, pitting the perfect facade of suburbia in stark contrast against the harsh reality of the rural south - if you’re looking for a book that will draw you in so far you’re not sure where the book ends and your life begins then you need to read The Girl Who Stopped Swimming.

I mentioned yesterday that I was struggling with this book… today I realise it wasn’t the book - I was just in a reading lull - I’ve just sat and raced through 100 pages with my hand over my mouth to stop me shouting at the characters! I’ve heard many great things about this book - and they are all true. I’ll definitely be reading it again - only next time I’ll give it the dedication it deserves.

    1. I did like the book. I found parts of it dragged for me but then it grabbed me to the end. I do think it might make a good movie though as you’ve said.

Darlenes last blog post..Turtle Valley by Gail Anderson-Dagatz

    2. Is this a newer book? I’ve read Gods in Alabama and Between, Georgia and enjoyed both but neither were OH MY GOSH good. I’d definitely read another of her books, though.

      Trishs last blog post..Read-a-thon Complete!!!

    3. Trish I think this is her latest - it only came out in paperback this year.

Darlene - it was slow to start with but definitely had me hooked by the end

    4. I saw this book and was intrigued by the title I’ll definitely get it after that review :)
