Aside | Summer Reading Extravaganza Day 3: Magazines!

By Mrs S • Jun 25th, 2008 • Category: Asides, Summer Reading Extravaganza

Today is day 3 in the Summer Reading Extravaganza and the girls are asking for some magazine recommendations:

We all love books, but how about magazines? Magazines are perfect for the shorter flight or poolside (so your book doesn’t get wet), don’t you think? What are your favorite magazines or what magazines would you recommend for book lovers? Or is there a magazine we should stay away from?

I agree that magazines are great for flying - though I’d say they’re just as good for long flights as short - sometimes its good to have lots of different things to keep you occupied while you’re stuck in that tiny seat for so long.

That said I’m not really a big magazine fan - I am not the kind of girl who can while away hours reading about celebrity gossip or what colour eye shadow I should be wearing this season ;) I do have three active subscriptions though to these fantastic magazines:

My husband and I are huge Walt Disney World fans and Orlando Attractions Magazine - written by WDW lovers for WDW lovers - gives us a taste of ‘home’ when we can’t be there! It’s packed full of great articles and photos and comes highly recommended by me.

Digital Scrapbooking Magazine is published bi-monthly and is full of reader layouts and tutorials to inspire us digi-scrappers - I can’t wait for the next issue to hit my door mat.

Finally Webuser - a UK magazine - indulges my love for all things Internet - keeping me informed of the latest trends and providing articles for everything from protecting your laptop from spyware to how to make friends with FriendFeed or FaceBook.

I save the latest issues especially for long journeys when we’re off on vacation - they’re perfect for flicking through at the airport, on the plane, by the pool, or just when you’re chilling out at the end of the day and you’re too tired to concentrate on that book.

For more information you can click on the images to visit the relevant websites.

So what magazines do you recommend for summer reading? Post in the comments and then head over to the extravaganza to see what everyone else has to offer.

Hope to see you tomorrow :)

    1. Hi! I recommend Tin House magazine. It’s not too think and you find short stories, poetry, interviews from authors, and except from upcoming novels.

Vasillys last blog post..Booking through Thursday

    2. I just subscribed (well, trial subscription, anyway) to a magazine I read about on another Weekly Geek’s blog. It’s called One Story, and that’s what it is: a magazine with one short story in it. Sounds like great summer reading to me!

    3. The variety of magazines this week’s Geek is highlighting is AMAZING! It is fun to see what unique mags people are reading.
