Aside | Summer Reading Extravaganza Day 1: Fun Summer Reads!

Today is day one of the Summer Reading Extravaganza and the girls want to know:
So we’re asking…what’s your favorite beach read or what’s in your beach bag?
That stack of books above is what I plan to read during the summer – though it will be in my garden rather than the beach as we’re not heading to the beach until December this year! Of course the good thing about summering at Garden Gate is that if you find you’ve picked up a rubbish book you can just come inside and select another from the shelf. Hitting the beach requires a little more thought…
For that I try and pick something light, and preferably from an author I know and love. This year I may throw in some YA reads as they will fit the bill nicely. And I’ll always think about how many books I’ll get through and throw in a couple of extras – you know just in case you do happen to take a bad book! The same applies to flights of course – we tend to holiday in the USA and there’s nothing worse than an 8 hour flight with a book that just bores you to tears. Another wholeheartedly good reason for why I need to invest in a Kindle – then I could have 200 books to choose from and no extra weight to carry!
What about you? What book is in your beach bag this summer? Be sure to stop by the Summer Reading Extravaganza and join in the fun

I love Little Women. I try to read it at least once a year. I love you stack of books, good luck getting through them all.

I love reading YA novels during the summer, too. I’m a teacher, so I like to keep up with what my students are reading in their off-school hours. Bookshelves of doom (http://bookshelvesofdoom.blogs.com/bookshelves_of_doom/) has great reviews and recommendations, if you’re interested. I’m added several of her recs to my Amazon wish list.

OK, first off I’m really enjoying going round and seeing what everyone else is reading. I’ve read three of the books on your list (I think, can’t make out the title of one or two). I loved Jemima J and Little Women but really didn’t get on well with Wuthering Heights; I’ve been enjoying classics over the last year or so but that’s one which just confused me and I found hard going. Before Green Gables is a book I’m a bit ambivalent about reading – I loved the Anne books when I read them as a child and teen and would love to revisit them. But a prequel I’m not sure about. Would be interested to hear what you think. If you’ve never read LM Montgomery’s Emily books they are really worth the time and in my opinion are better than Anne.
Great stack of summer reads. Little Women is on my summer reading list as well for another challenge.
