Kim from Bold. Blue. Adventure. has started a blogging tips meme - she’s started a list of great blogging tips and has challenged other bloggers to generate some more - so here are a couple from me:
Spell check your posts
Before you hit publish make sure you re-read your posts to check for spelling mistakes or typos. Browsers like Firefox or Flock are great as they will point out your mistakes by underlining words in red.
Promote your RSS feed
There are so many blogs out there in the big wide Internet that its hard to keep up with them - so help your readers by making it easy for them to subscribe to your RSS feed. You can find out more about RSS here.
Incy Wincy Spider
The large majority of my visitors find my site via Google - I use a Wordpress plug in called All in One SEO Pack to optimise my posts for those Google spiders.
Encourage comments
The best thing about blogging is meeting new people and interacting with your readers. Encourage people to comment on your posts, start a conversation with them, head over and visit their sites and leave them a comment. Make your readers welcome and they’ll come back to visit you often.
Well that was more than a couple in the end! Do you have any great blog tips? Leave me a message in the comments below to share your secrets - and be sure to visit Kim and let her know too ![]()

Ohhh, I love the spring-y picture! Great tip about spell-checking. Sometimes I forget to do this and find myself a little embarrassed afterward.
Trish’s last blog post..Wicked - Gregory Maguire
Great advice! I don’t know how many times the Firefox spell checker has saved my life! I get very thrown off when I am using a different internet browser and I am trying to spell something.
I need to try and figure out how to promote my blog more. I am not technical, so that one may be a challenge. That is a great point though.
And thanks for posting your tips!
Kim L’s last blog post..Fables: Animal Farm
Good tip about spell checking. I actually read my posts twice before hitting submit, and yet there’s always a mistake or two or three that escapes my attention. Not so much misspelling words, but leaving a word out of the sentence or writing some random word in the place of another. And then I realize if after everyone has read the post and I want to dig a hole and hide in it
“Make your readers welcome and they?ll come back to visit you often.”
So true
Nymeth’s last blog post..?To Be a Slave? by Julius Lester (and Six Random Things Meme)
@Kim - I have a blog in my reader somewhere that is a great intro to blog promotion - next time she posts something I’ll stop by and give you the link
@Nymeth - I agree - Despite my words of wisdom that spade still comes out regularly! *lol*
Great advice, Mrs S! I agree about the spelling issue, and I make sure to look up those words if I’m not familiar with them. Visiting other blogs and leaving them comments is another great way to meet new people, and who knows we would be good friends thereafter eh?
BTW, I love the pic! So bright and beautiful!
