Book Challenge | Spring Reading Thing 2008

Posted by: Clare Swindlehurst In: Spring Reading Thing

I think I’m becoming addicted to challenges! *lol* Spring Reading Thing 2008 has just been launched over at Callapidder Days - and the challenge is to get through a number of books between March 20 and June 19 - the number and the type of book is entirely up to the participants. All you have to do to take part is publish a list of what you plan to read.

My TBR pile was getting out of control - I have two of them to be exact - one upstairs in a bookcase in my study - and one in the dining room. My problem is that I buy books quicker than I can read them - and I always read the newest first - so to stop that happening I have put the dining room pile into alphabetical order and I will read them in that order - slotting new books in their rightful place as I buy them.

So it should be easy enough for me to make a list for the challenge right?

Let’s see - 3 months - I think I can get through at least 8 books in that time so my list will be:

  1. Secrets of a family album by Isla Delwar
  2. Good Harbour - Anita Diamant
  3. A quiet belief in angels - R J Ellory
  4. 26a Diana Evans
  5. Then we came to the end - Joshua Ferris
  6. The sea house - Esther Freud
  7. Through a glass darkly - Jostin Gardner
  8. Hester’s Story - Adele Geras

[You won't know this as you can't see my TBR - but I'll make a small confession here - I just skipped a book from the pile - Human Traces by Sebastian Faulks - it's a monster of a book and I don't think I can handle it - anyone read it who can let me know whether to leave it on my TBR or give it  away??]

There we have it - four books that I’ve acquired this year and four that have been gathering dust on the shelf for a while so I think that’s a nice even balance. I think two of them may also have been published in 2008 so I can use them for The Pub challenge too.

If you want to organise your reading - why not sign up for the challenge yourself over at Callapidder Days.

Many of these are unfamiliar to me, but i have read The Red Tent by Anita Diamant, and loved it, so I’ll be interested to read that (and other) reviews. Happy Easter!

Just stopping by to thank you for being part of SRT ‘08. And I agree that 4 new books and 4 dust-gatherers is a perfect balance. :) Enjoy your reading!

I think we should all have buttons that say we are reading challenge addicts! :) There are just so many fun ones it’s hard not to join right? I’m not joining the Spring one but I’ve got several going on right now and am joining a couple of others soon.
