Description
For Bella Swan, there is one thing more important than life itself: Edward Cullen. But being in love with a vampire is more dangerous than Bella ever could have imagined. Edward has already rescued Bella from the clutches of an evil vampire but now, as their daring relationship threatens all that is near and dear to them, they realise their troubles may just be beginning…
Review
New Moon is the second book in a trilogy and follows smoothly on from where the first book {twilight} left off.
The book focuses on Bella as she tries to come to terms with the loss of her relationship with Edward, and how she finds strength in a new friendship with Jacob Black. Meyer manages to tie themes of relationship issues in with vampires and werewolves as seamlessly here as in the first book.
Jacob was my favourite character – and when it became easy to see a love triangle developing I was definitely rooting for him!
The book moves along at a swift pace and sweeps you along with it to the extent that it becomes completely believable that these fantasical characters exist – although I was slightly put out by the group of tourists who were destined to become thirst quenchers!
All in all it’s a very enjoyable and easy read – and it’s Young Adult status shouldn’t put off any older readers. I’ve moved onto the third book in the series already!

I am mid-way through “New Moon” and like it better than “Twilight”. I love vampire books, especially those of Anne Rice. I can see where Meyer has borrowed from Rice in that her vampires are marble-like and similar to the eldest and strongest vampires in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles. It helps the story to have a way for vampires to be able to come out in the daytime so Edward, etc. can attend High School.
One of my biggest problems with these books is that the vampires have so little self control that the mere sight or smell of blood can set most of them off. That seems pretty far fetched. Only vampires who are totally out of control are supposed to do that. As a 50 Something female rather than a teenager I can’t help but feel less sympathy for Bella who seems like a real head case than for most of the other characters. She’s often belligerant, rude, and anti-social. It is. also, not normal for a female not to discuss her relationships/break-ups with at least one female friend-not that she had to say Edward was a vampire. Not only that, but it just shows how naive and innocent she is in her romantic fancies that she can’t see that Jake would be a much better choice for her than Edward. Werewolf or not, he is at least, flesh and blood, warm, and probably not going to hurt her during a passionate kiss. Plus, she could marry him and have children and make her father and Jake’s dad happy.
Alice is my favorite character. Whatever else happens in the books, I hope things go well for her.
hi.
i was just wondering when the new moon movie will be released?
tnx so much. i’m so excited
I totaly know what you mean about how its so much better when you read about Edward but the fact that hes not there is very important to the whole book. he will be back at the end of the book and it is quit intresting when he comes back so keep reading and read the whol series i just finished its great
i think there should be no jacob it shoulb be edward all the way and i think it was bellas falt for edward running away. i think that chrly might become a unicorn with all this makebelieved stuff……
I loved the movie Twilight.I have watched it several days in a row. My fear about the New Moon is that Edward and Bella will not be together and that was the most exciting thing about Twilight. I do not want to see her and Jacob getting close at all. Bella and Edward need to stay together. If not I will be upset and possibly not want to further read the book or watch New Moon.
omgosh over all i loved the second one… when edward left bella i thought i was going throught the break up… it hurt me i was crying like no other..i couldnt believe how it effected her she was a lost soul and it was hard reading her pain.. i was getting annoyed when her and jacob where getting close it bothered me..i was like where is edward .. and i was right with her when she would do stuff to hear his voice.. its an exciting book.. its worth the read i just started eclipse… its getting good…
are u kidding me right now new moon was the perfect book to go after twilight your just jealous u didnt write it
@Josette -
Loved the first book – second book rubbish as edward wasn’t in it – who cares about jacob (Notice how her relationship with Jacob is the same was with edward in the first book) skipped here and there all the way through hoping to find edward again and it messed up the ending for me as you don’t get the build up – cannot be botherd to read the rest.
omg i loved all of her books!!! i finished them all. they are soooo good! i must say i loved eclipse and breaking dawn a lot more than new moon! edward wasnt really in it. it was pretty boring it was just bout jacob! ewwwww EDWARD CULLEN IS BETTER!!!!!!!!!!
ive only read the first two books and they are AMAZING!!!!!
I just read Twilight and loved it!!! In 2 days I might add!! OK I’m 11 and just read the Harry Potter seriez it was awsome and I was looking for somthing else to I found a lot of kids at my school were reading it so I bought the 1st book and im hooked!! Im bugging my mom to let me get the others!! I think I got my friend Gabby hooked too!! I lent her the book and the first night she had it she was up till 2! reading and you can never get her to read!!PS I think it was just as good as harry potter maybe even beter IDK I’ll have to read the rest!
she is going to publish new moon and i had the privlage to help stephanie meyer choose the cover!!
i was jw if stephanie meyer is going to finish the book midnight sun?
i think the reason edward left was to hope bella had a beter life without him.. that’s what i think tell me if it is or not
Well Ive jus finished about a quater of New Moon and Im in love with Edward…although, i also think that Jacob soundz like a very cool guy! When Edward leavez, i bursted out crying! Mostly because i felt her pain…Ive had many loved onez walk out on me and it really hurtz…i love Meyers books so far and i hope she keepz writing! I cant wait till Edward comes back!
@JULIE –
Well is the book that sad im reading the eclispe right now just got it yesterday and already almost done but like half wway thru it but wat made you cry about it?? it makes me wonder
I absolutely love the Twilight Saga!! I read all four books in less than a month and a half, and I hope you keep writing, because they’re amazing books that get you so hooked! I’m a huge Edward fan; I wish there were guys out there that acted just like him:]
BTW- I hope you keep writing Midnight Sun, because it seems like it would be great.
Congrats on your success!
I absolutely hate it when Edward leaves! I cried the rest of the book. At first, I thought JAcob was okay. AS A FRIEND. But I hate his character in Eclipse and I think he just needs to leave Bella alone or just be her friend. I understand part of it, but I honestly don’t like him. I eventually liked him in Breaking Dawn but I hated him with a passion for a while.
(I love Edward’s sisters cause my first name is Rosalie and my middle is Alice! Ironic, don’t you think?)
TWILIGHT IS EASIALY THE BEST THING THAT HAS EVER HAPPENED TO ME! I am a junior in high school, rarley do i read and i read it in three days! i’m having a great time trying to get my parents out the door [ as i type this ] to get me New moon! I hope it can compair!
I have read the first two books and am getting ready to read the third. they have got to be the B–E-S-T BEST series to see the light of day!!
peenutdem
I am really disappointed in this book! The author basically repeated Twilight, but using Jacob as a werewolf. It’s too bad, had a lot of potential.

I have recently finished reading Twilight, and was very enthusiastic about reading the sequel. I am about 200 pages in and am starting to wonder if anything will ever start to pick up speed again. Bella really needs to stop feeling sorry for herself… so if someone could let me know if it is worth the wait that would be great.
I did not really like this book actually. Preferred Twilight! I haven’t read Eclipse yet…need to get that book soon. =)
And yeah, Jacob is a fine character. Bella is lucky/unlucky to have two guys after her!

Hello i read twilight and am currently waiting for the new moon to become avalible i loved the first book i am so in love with edward and all he does to keep bella in his life at all costs
it will be interesting to see where this goes and how the live of a young girl and a vampire end up
Wow
A great, great book. It was sooo sad when Edward left poor Bella in the forest. I cried, seems pathetic right? But it’s alright. Anyways, I’m really into this book and looking forward to buy the third. I will pretty soon.
Does anyone know the release date of “Twilight”? I was thinking that I wanted them to make a movie and then Voila! I find out that they were making one. But I’m kind of afraid that when I watch the movie it might ruin the perception of the character, example, Edward, as when I read the new books I might see this character in the movie, rather then my minds eye of how he looks.
But anyways, I am excited for the movie and I think that New Moon is a great, great book! The centre chunk about Jacob was intresting and when Edward returned I was very happy! I love the connection between Bella and Edward, it just makes me so happy even though this is only a fiction novel! Hope anyone who hasn’t read it enjoys!
Hi Alix – I have to agree with you – Jacob is the most interesting character and was my favourite too. I was a big fan of Dawson’s Creek as a kid and would pick Pacey over Dawson any day… I think Jacob is my Pacey *lol*
I loved New Moon and Jacob quickly became a favourite character. Much as I loved Edward I just find Jacob more interesting.
Alix’s last blog post..Fun Monday
Hi Julie – I’m glad you enjoyed the books too – I didn’t realise there were two more coming – though it was just one! I admit to being a little misty eyed at points during one of the books – but can’t for the life of me remember which one!
I just did some google searching and found this link suggesting a release date of December 12 – which I assume is Stateside:
http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/04/10/stephanie-meyer-talks-more-about-the-twilight-movie/
I read all 3 books the minute my books arrived at my house within 3 days! I was so hooked on it and im glad i read it! i cried a little in eclipse (how pathetic) i wondered if you cried too?! or maybe its just me lol
i can’t wait til midnight sun, breaking daawn and the movie to come out! do you know exactly when the movie is coming out? some say in 2010! (i hope not bc thats the year i graduate high school and it’ll be too long!!!) but then i heard its coming out on dec 2008! i hope so bc thats near my brithday!!
I thought as I was reading the books that a movie would be quite good – I’ll definitely be heading out to watch that at the cinema :0)
I am a fan of Meyer’s and really enjoy this series. I can hardly wait for the movie!
@lauren – Edward returns near the end of the book – so you’ll have to keep reading – it’s worth the wait though. He features all of the way through the third book too so you won’t have any problems with that one :0)
@Katty – The novels are all set in a small town in America – and follow Bella while at High School – the setting changes though from school to home to the forest – and even heads to Italy for a time!
so what’s the setting of the book?
hi
im just wondering when does edward come back into the story because i want to keep reading but i like the book lots more when im reading about edward
so really all i wanted to ask is when dose he come back into the story?
Glad you’re enjoying it Kristine :0)
I am currently reading the first book in the series due to your recommendation…I am already 1/4 through the book after just a few hours. I am quite enjoying it!!
